Talya Baldwin
Talya is an illustrator from Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. She studied at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh college of Art and Saint Martin's College in London. Her work is drawn and painted by hand. She is fascinated by birds, particularly the corvids and all the mythology that surrounds them; they are seen as ugly, cruel and often signify death or evil, but she has always found them really beautiful. She likes drawing things that aren't usually loved or celebrated: weeds, pigeons, rats, cockroaches, barbed wire. She has also kept her childhood obsession with fairy tales and the characters that populate them. Some of her drawings are of worlds filled with enchanted creatures, but it's important that they are dark, fascinating worlds, not the brightly-coloured kind you often find in children's books. Some of her cleints are: Canon, Random House, Weleda, Waterstone's, The Royal Court Theatre, Twenty8Twelve, Milk magazine, The Financial Times, Carolina Herrera.
